Morningside Heights Planning Framework Study

This study, completed in 2000 for Columbia University, provides a long-term plan for its historic campus and off-campus real estate, analyzes existing development options and provides landscaping, design and historic preservation guidelines to improve the appearance of the campus and neighborhood. The guidelines are still used today and 5 buildings have been developed that were proposed as part of the site studies. A two-year public planning process also provided transparency and collaboration with the neighboring residential community regarding the University’s future plans. An appointed Working Group of community leaders and design specialists met throughout and provided input and review of the recommendations.
